Swim England Volunteering Team looking forward to support more people in 2024

Volunteering opportunities within aquatics come in all shapes and sizes with roles available throughout the sport.

Whether you fancy coaching, officiating, supporting your club, helping at events or being on a committee or working group there’s always a role for anyone who wants to get involved.

2023 was a successful year for the team where they helped recruit more than 1500 new technical officials across the aquatic disciplines, more than 1000, new team managers and upskilled more than 1500, club committee members.

This influx of new faces helped bolster the dedicated members of the community who support aquatic events across the country as well as continuing the training of the existing volunteer base.

The team has worked hard to provide training on updates to World Aquatics rule changes – particularly in artistic swimming – and revised Swim England policies. They’ve also been reviewing existing training materials and embraced new technologies to improve and enhance the appeal to new and returning participants.

‘A great way to participate’

And in 2024 the team is hoping to encourage more people to volunteer so that aquatic sports can grow and thrive.

Swim England’s volunteering and development coordinator Andrea Startin said: “With so many interesting and varied volunteering opportunities, helping out in whatever capacity is a great way to participate in aquatics, have fun and potentially support your club or athlete to achieve their full potential.

“When I volunteer at events, I am always overwhelmed by the commitment and generosity of our volunteers.

“Thank you to all those people across the country who give their time and enthusiasm to help out and to anyone looking to get involved please do get in touch with us and your region.”

Swim England officials development coordinator Helen Akers added: “As an active volunteer for many years myself, it is a pleasure to help and support participation in our sports, whether that is as an official, event volunteer, athlete or supporter.”
